Work > ~A Shifting Thought, A Shifting Sea

This exploration of the parent/child relationship is a metaphor for the larger idea of cognitive flexibility, or our ability as humans to switch our perspective on our world, therefor completely creating and altering our experience.

The drawings are compositions created from one photograph of my child. I see this as a way to very literally examine, then recreate this relationship from multiple angles and points of view. I am making this idea visually literal through drawing completely different ways of seeing my son.

While drawing I recorded the sounds made by the making of the drawings. These audible marks speak of creation, destruction, frustration, joy, etc., while also speaking very literally of the act of drawing. Each soundscape has a specific drawing with which it belongs, as it is made from the particular sounds of that drawing.
