A Shifting Thought, A Shifting Sea
This body of work is an exploration of the mother/child relationship, acting as a metaphor for the larger idea of cognitive flexibility- our ability as humans to switch our perspective on our world, therefor completely creating and altering our experience. These drawings are all compositions created from one image of my child. This as a way to very literally examine, then recreate, this relationship from multiple angles and points of view.
While drawing, I recorded all the sounds made by my tools while creating the drawings. These audible marks speak of creation, destruction, frustration, and joy, while also speaking very literally of the act of drawing.
Each soundscape has a specific drawing with which it belongs, as it is made from the particular sounds of that drawing.
